COVID-19: Optimization of the Government’s Digital Services

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Portuguese State enacted a national state of emergency from March until May, leading to (parallel to other measures) limitations in face-to-face service in Government’s public service offices. As such, the Citizen’s Map digital platform (which groups information on the physical location of all government’s public service offices across the country) needed to be updated and optimized to guide citizens towards the respective digital services, avoiding unnecessary trips that could contribute to the spread of the virus.

This project was developed by the turnkey projects team at ALTER SOLUTIONS PORTUGAL and can be divided into two main action plans:

 

1. Improving Website and Apps

The platform was updated with information regarding COVID-19 and the consequent changes in public services (including relevant links to each office). Accessibility and usability issues were addressed, including button and visual queues on service hours and working limitations. Advanced search filters and online scheduling were also implemented.

 

2. Database Synchronism

The databases from the several public services’ websites are automatically synched, feeding the Citizen’s Map with updated information.

Andreia Roques is the new HR Director of ALTER SOLUTIONS Portugal

Our company is growing fast. Throughout 2019, more than 100 talents joined our teams, enabling us to go over the 350-employee mark. Therefore, we realized it was time to strengthen our Human Resources department with someone that would help us establish new and improved processes and policies that empower our people. Andreia Roques is that person.

Andreia’s new mission is to develop and implement a global HR model for our company, one that prioritizes the professional development and growth of our teams and overall improves their experience at ALTER SOLUTIONS. The goal is to establish a strategy that aligns all Human Resources dimensions – such as Career Development, Training, Corporate Culture or Internal Communications.

We are sure Andreia is the right fit. With over ten of experience in managing human capital in different sectors, she was previously heading the HR department of an American farming company with over 1.200 people. Before that she was part of the HR team of Portugal’s largest steel mill.

Reinforcing our support teams is a strategy we have started a few months ago, with the nomination of José Trindade as CFO. At a time when our company is expanding on a national and international level, ensuring a solid structure is key to a sustainable future.

We grew over 200% in Portugal

The 2018 results of our activity in Portugal have been released and congratulations are in order to our Portuguese teams: the company had a turnover of 5.65 million Euros in 2018, which represents a 223% increase from the previous year and 13% over the initial forecast.

This was a year of great accomplishments for ALTER SOLUTIONS in Portugal. Amongst the many goals we’ve reached, we highlight the following:

> Launch of our Nearshore area – which will be a major growth factor for the company in 2019;

> Opening of our offices in Porto, which marked our geographical expansion in the country;

> Hiring our 250th

 

We are not slowing down in 2019. This year we aim to achieve a turnover of 10 million Euros and pass the mark of the 300 employees. Here’s how we plan to reach these goals:

> Our international projects – for which we are expanding our offices in Lisbon, in order to have new, dedicated teams;

> Launch of our ALTER Camps, our Academies for IT recent graduates;

> Investment in Training, in order to promote the professional development of our teams.

We’re launching our first Academies for recent graduates in Portugal

The IT sector is one of the most demanding in the job market worldwide. In order to help prepare young professionals to the challenges of corporate life, we’re launching our ALTER Camps, ALTER SOLUTIONS’s first training academies for recent graduates in the IT sector in Portugal.

During these three-month programs, we’re challenging participants to work as a team in order to develop creative solutions to solve concrete problems, both internal or from our partners. In the end, they will be invited to join our company, pending the results from their evaluation.

With these Academies, we aim to contribute to the professional development of recent graduates, by putting them in direct contact with a real corporate environment, whilst helping them acquire technical skills that meet the market’s current needs. All teams have permanent support by a group of experienced professionals who will act as mentors, guiding and challenging the participants.

The ALTER Camps are aimed at young people permanently living in Portugal, with no prior professional experience, with a Bachelor or Master’s Degree in the IT sector.
